7/29/2014 0 Comments The Classic Denim. All sorts of jeans keep appearing in huge billboards on the streets, magazine ads, and most shocking (for some) in high fashion. Why is it shocking??? Well in a world where people expect skirts , classy tops, expensive jewels and everyone having the elegance of Audrey Hepburn , it is quite a relief that jeans can be incorporated into the mix without looking like you're a mine worker. Bringing jeans in ads for Calvin Klein, EXPRESS, J.Crew , all featuring fresh faced models with warm lightning for this upcoming fall was a genius approach. Jeans in the fall have always been a thing but when high fashion is incorporated to this concept some stylist will turn up the volume until denim is all we see.
Problem #1: Denim on denim. This is the issue that concerns us all because we don't want to end up having an old western look (unless thats your goal). The point of this look is to look effortless and simple. I would suggest to wear jeans, a flannel shirt, jean jacket, and boots. Try to mix texture and different washes to create a contrast and avoid to look too western, also match with darker colors and avoid white to bring the brightness to the denim. Problem#2: Denim Accessories.... no....These remind me of the late 1900-early 2000 look, something Lizzie McGuire would wear but apparently they are coming back. The best denim accessory I will support is a denim fedora hat. They match with most things, they can be casual but classy, and they look good with jeans, a dress and a denim vest, and good for bad hair days. Problem#3: ALL denim: Head to toe on denim ....this is what models are doing, people in hollywood are buying, retail stores want you to buy denim, I mean its all about your personal style. If you have the confidence, style, and good eye to wear denim skirt, denim button up shirt, and denim scarf, then wear it. If you want to try those mom jeans with denim jackets, go to a party in a denim cocktail dress, or rock a denim jumpsuit to the supermarket is all up to you. Whichever look you decide go ahead and make it your own , and most importantly have fun. Remember denim may be a strong in marketing this fall but it will forever be our classic must-have emergency go to wardrobe piece in our closet.

New York City... The city that never sleeps. It is the only place on Earth I want to be. This past spring break when i visited New York City i was embraced by the New York City pollution and every scent in the city captured my attention , even the ones I had a hard time adjusting to. Walking through Central Park was amazing. It was beautiful how in the middle of Manhattan a beautiful park was surrounded by tall skyscrapers , and to notice that nature is wonderful even in such an active city as NYC. I guess the best part of my trip was walking. I observed things i found interesting, some were disturbing, some were beautiful, some were innovating, yet i admire each event that happened. I observed how a gorgeous girl in a business suit was pickpocketing her neighbor at the crosswalk between 24th and 7th Ave, I observed how the homeless stand in the middle of Times Square and ask money for drugs and alcohol with no shame(probably the most honest people I know), I observed the artists drinking coffee at Greenwich Village while contemplating their next idea for a masterpiece , I observed talented performers in Broadway shows, in Central Park, I observed the arrest of two young guys in a subway station. Some of these events were hard to acknowledge at first , yet they began to make sense later on. This city is beautiful not only because of its tourist attractions, what makes this city beautiful is the good and the bad every day life in New York City. The population from NYC , united in catastrophic events such as 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy, and those moments prove that regardless how immense NYC is there is a connection between each New Yorker. Each citizen who lives here is going to be victim of pickpocketing , going to be drinking coffee , going to be in trouble , each person will own a talent and make a living out of their skills. In New York City everyone is a New Yorker and when Frank Sinatra performed New York New York in Radio City Music Hall on the night of October 4th (my birthday) of 1972 , Sinatra made the crowd cry because that song described their beloved city so well. My favorite part was to be on top of the Empire State Building and understanding Sinatra about being , "king of the hill , top of the list" in his song. Now every year during New Years I will listen to this song and watch the ball drop from my television knowing one day I will experience it live and I will be part of New York again. I fell in love . Not with a boy , not with money or fame. I fell in love with my fashion sketches , and i fell in love with New York City where my sketches will become alive one day on a runway show. I love you New York City 5/9/2014 7 Comments mother's day Before I was even born my mom had already chosen my outfits for all my childhood. Being her first and only daughter she played with my wardrobe as if I were a little porcelain doll . I wore floral dresses with lace, i wore straw hats, and my tiny feet were covered by white socks and shoes that always matched my outfit. My mother was my personal stylist, the first person to teach me about fashion. When I was about 5 years old i would sit by her bed and admire how gracefully she would apply red lipstick, black eyeliner, dark lashes , and finally lock her signature style with a spritz of CHANEL No 5 , these three items sealed her amazing personality. My mommy taught me to say good morning , please, thank you , and bless you, how to always be thankful and humble , but to always keep my head up and attitude strong. I was always an odd ball among the people i hung out and i never felt like i was accepted because I saw things in a different way , and my mom taught me it was a good thing to make a statement , I became proud to be unique. My mom began my obsession with CHANEL , she bought me my first lip gloss from a drugstore that was cherry flavor and it dried my lips quickly , she taught me how to walk in high heels , and i visited New York City, greatest fashion capital, with my mommy, my true best friend. She is my first and greatest fashion icon , before Coco Gabrielle Chanel and before Anna Wintour . She brought me to life and she introduced me to what i will do for the rest of my life, fashion.
